The LCB (Laboratory of Bacterial Chemistry) is a specific research unit of the National Scientific Research Center (CNRS), located on the Joseph Aiguier site, in the Federative Institute of Research in Microbiology of the Mediterranean in partnership with the University of the Mediterranean.

The research carried out by the LCB teams relates to the study of the molecular mechanisms governing the functioning of prokariotes.
Several bacterial species are studied either for their biological model (Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Synechocystis), or for their specific properties (acid-proof bacteria, magneto bacteria, pathogenic bacteria).
The LCB teams are particularly involved in the training of students both through their research (Theses) and by teaching at the University of Aix-Marseille II (LMD course in Life Sciences).

92 people divided into 15 teams, 3 departments and 2 platforms work at the LCB.
